A new call for proposals of the ACP-EU Water Facility has been published, with a focus on sanitation in poor peri-urban and urban areas in ACP countries.

News update on EUWI during World Water Week 2011

The EU Water Initiative (EUWI) recently highlighted some of its main achievements from the last 12 months to an international audience of some 2,000+ water sector professionals attending World Water Week (WWW) in Stockholm from 21 – 26 August. In particular, some of the EUWI’s successes e.g. strengthening political commitment to support the water sector in EU Member States and in developing countries, promoting water governance and capacity building, gained specific mention.

High-level political declarations have called for accelerated progress to meet the water and sanitation targets. However, such global commitments need to translate into concrete results at the country level. Recent assessments show that enormous challenges still exist for recipient countries to access and make effective use of aid.

Summary World Water Day 2011 (WWD 2011) in Capetown

World Water Day 2011 (WWD 2011) convened in Cape Town, South Africa on 22 March 2011. Under the theme of “Water for Cities: Responding to the Urban Challenge,” participants gathered to hear addresses from dignitaries such as His Royal Highness, Willem-Alexander, Prince of Orange, Chair of the UN Secretary-General’s Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation (UNSGAB), Edna Molewa, Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, South Africa, and Joan Clos, Under-Secretary General and Executive Director, UN-HABITAT.

World Water Forum Marseille 2012

Building on the outcomes from the 5th World Water Forum of Istanbul and other recognised international processes, participants of the kick-off meeting (june 2010)were asked to go beyond identifying important themes and issues, and instead to think about solutions to the world’s major water and sanitation challenges and how to achieve them. Indeed, the 6th World Water Forum will strive to be the “Forum of Solutions.” The development process will aim to find solutions by first identifying targets for a certain number of priority issues.
