The outcomes of the full day consultation session on water in the post-2015 development agenda, on 29 January 2013, were presented the following day by Bai Mass Taal, executive secretary of AMCOW, to the UN Secretary General’s High Level Panel of Eminent Persons on the post 2015 development agenda at their meeting in Monrovia, Liberia.

On the margins of the outreach meeting of the Post 2015 UN High Level Panel of Eminent Persons in Monrovia, the global water community holds thematic consultations on water on 29th and 30th of January 2013. The aim of the water consultation is to facilitate discussions from a broad range of stakeholders to review progress on the MDGs, kick-start consensus building around key future challenges in water and the need to address water in the post-2015 development agenda.

Global survey shows improved government performance in water resource management in Africa

Cairo, Egypt (2012-05-14)– Over 75 percent of the member countries of the African Ministers’ Council on Water (AMCOW) polled in a United Nations survey are implementing national water laws and nearly half are executing national plans for integrated water resources management in line with the Africa Water Vision for 2025 according to a new report launched today during the 8th General Assembly of AMCOW.

The African Ministers' Council on Water (AMCOW) was formed in 2002 in Abuja Nigeria, primarily to promote cooperation, security, social and economic development and poverty eradication among member states through the management of water resources and provision of water supply services.

The Mission of AMCOW is to provide political leadership, policy direction and advocacy in the provision, use and management of water resources for sustainable social and economic development and maintenance of African ecosystems.

AWG Briefing Note on Aid Effectiveness published online

High-level political declarations have called for accelerated progress to meet the water and sanitation targets. However, such global commitments need to translate into concrete results at the country level. Recent assessments show that enormous challenges still exist for recipient countries to access and make effective use of aid.

Guidance for the use of Water Supply and Sanitation Purpose Codes (OECD DAC Creditor Reporting System)

Purpose codes for water and sanitation have been revised taking effect in 2011 reporting on 2010 flows (agreed by the DAC Working Party on Statistics – WP-STAT – in May 2009). The purpose of this Note is to offer guidance to users of the revised codes; as such, the Note is “work in progress” and it is envisaged that the Guidance will be updated in the light of donors’ experience in applying the revised Codes. In offering guidance on the new purpose codes, this document also contributes to the higher objective of improving the overall quality of data in the water sector.
