The eighth meeting of the Steering Committee of the National Policy Dialogue on integrated water resources in management in Kyrgyzstan took place in Bishkek on 24 October 2012. It was organized by the Department of Water Management and Melioration of the Ministry of Agriculture and Melioration of Kyrgyzstan in cooperation with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in the framework of the European Union Water Initiative.

On 27 September 2012 in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, the second meeting of the Steering Committee of the National Policy Dialogue (NPD) on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) committed to further progress towards the implementation of IWRM in Turkmenistan following the country’s accession to the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes (Water Convention) in August 2012.

Ten years since the launching of the European Union Water Initiative (EUWI), some 50 representatives of the countries of Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia, as well as European Union (EU) member States and international organizations, are gathering in Geneva to discuss progress in implementation. In those countries the Water Initiative is implemented through National Policy Dialogues supported by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

The first Steering Committee meeting of the Georgian National Policy Dialogue on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM), held in Tbilisi on Monday and Tuesday, 11 and 12 June, approved some basic elements for new water legislation to be further developed into a draft law. The Steering Committee meeting, which was followed by a Stakeholders Workshop, was organized by the Georgian Ministry of Environment Protection and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), in cooperation with Global Water Partnership Georgia.
