ACP - European Water facility

The EU has been innovative in finding new ways to deliver its assistance by launching the ACP Water facility in 2004.
This Facility, targeting developing countries in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific, is a response to the need to catalyse additional funding and to work directly with those most affected by shortages of water and the absence of sanitation. An amount of €250m for the Facility was approved by the EU Council in 2004, and a further €250m is likely to be approved in 2005.
Specific objective:
Boost the sustainable delivery of water and sanitation infrastructure and improve water governance and Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) practices in ACP countries by helping to address the financing gap.
