Together with African Ministers Council on Water (AMCOW) and a number of other organizations, the EUWI-Africa Working Group (AWG) co-convened the seminar Focus: Africa at the World Water Week 2011 in Stockholm.

During the entire World Water Week in Stockholm, the EUWI was present with an exhibition stand where participants could interact with members from the Africa Working Group (AWG) support group and the European Commission. Hard copies of publications from the AWG, the Finance Working Group and the EUWI secretariat were also availble.

In 1997, more than 100 nations joined up in adopting the UN Convention on the Law of the Non-Navigational Uses of International Watercourses as the only global treaty laying out the rules and principles that govern the use, management and protection of international watercourses.The convention counts 20 contracting states – 15 short of the required for entry into force.

The Africa Water Week offers a unique opportunity to take the call for immediate action for sanitation further. Through presentations, a panel and plenary discussions, this seminar will provide an excellent platform to discuss and identify concrete actions to be taken by the different stakeholders. Speakers include high- level representatives of developing countries, national governments and decision makers of donor organisations as well as other recognised sector experts.
