News update on EUWI during World Water Week 2011

The EU Water Initiative (EUWI) recently highlighted some of its main achievements from the last 12 months to an international audience of some 2,000+ water sector professionals attending World Water Week (WWW) in Stockholm from 21 – 26 August. In particular, some of the EUWI’s successes e.g. strengthening political commitment to support the water sector in EU Member States and in developing countries, promoting water governance and capacity building, gained specific mention.


Summary World Water Day 2011 (WWD 2011) in Capetown

World Water Day 2011 (WWD 2011) convened in Cape Town, South Africa on 22 March 2011. Under the theme of “Water for Cities: Responding to the Urban Challenge,” participants gathered to hear addresses from dignitaries such as His Royal Highness, Willem-Alexander, Prince of Orange, Chair of the UN Secretary-General’s Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation (UNSGAB), Edna Molewa, Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, South Africa, and Joan Clos, Under-Secretary General and Executive Director, UN-HABITAT.

SPLASH, the ERA-NET of the European Water Initiative will launch a research call on 1st March, 2010. The overall call budget will be approx. 1.7 Mio Euro. The call will be funded by the following donors:

New ACP-EU Water Facility

A new allocation of €200 Million from the 10th European Development Fund (EDF) has been allocated to the new Water Facility and two calls for proposals will be published at the beginning of 2010.

World Water Week in Stockholm: Invitation for Workshop Abstracts and Seminar Proposals

The 2010 World Water Week in Stockholm, September 5-11, is now making its 1st Announcement, calling for workshop abstracts and proposals from organisations to convene a seminar or side event in 2010. The Announcement provides information on the thematic scope, structure, and the special focus on Water Quality for 2010. It also gives guidelines on how to convene a seminar or side event or submit an abstract for presentation during the eight workshops.
